Crown Land in the Land O' Lakes

12 crown land sites 8 fishing spots 8 campgrounds

The Land O' Lakes is the lake-stippled country along Highways 7 and 41 between Kingston and Bancroft, where the Canadian Shield first rises out of eastern Ontario's farmland. Its centrepiece is Bon Echo Provincial Park and Mazinaw Rock — a 100-metre cliff dropping straight into Ontario's second-deepest lake, painted with more than 260 Indigenous pictographs — but the quieter draw is the crown land around Cloyne, Flinton and Ardoch, where lakes like Skootamatta, Weslemkoon and the upper Mississippi River hide free campsites and solid bass, lake trout and walleye water. This page rounds up the region's public land, fishing spots, campgrounds and road trips.

Regulations

A valid Ontario fishing licence (with an Outdoors Card) is required on every lake, and several lake trout lakes here have winter closures and slot limits — check Zone 18 rules. Bon Echo Provincial Park charges day-use and camping fees with reservations essential in summer; on the surrounding crown land, camping is free for Canadian residents (21-day limit at any one site), with a paid permit for non-residents of Canada. Much of the shoreline outside the crown blocks is private cottage land — verify boundaries before setting up.
