Winter fishing on Stellako River
Stellako River is in fishing Region 7A (Omineca). BC has no separate ice fishing season, so the regular rules apply through the ice: the 2025-2027 synopsis lists rules of its own for this water, shown below, on top of the regional quotas.
- No Fishing Nov 15-May 14; Class II water when open (Steelhead Stamp not required)
- Rainbow trout catch and release
- Fly fishing only between fishing boundary signs approximately 250 m and 4 km downstream of the bridge near the François Lake outlet
- No powered boats from François Lake to the falls
- See Region 6 tables for restrictions applying to François Lake’s outlet area
- Trout/char: 5, but not more than 1 over 50 cm, 2 from streams, 3 lake trout and 1 bull trout (Dolly Varden). Release bull trout from streams all year and from lakes Aug 15-Oct 15, and lake trout Sept 15-Oct 31 and under 30 cm.
- Arctic grayling: catch and release only
