Crown Land on Lake Nipissing
Lake Nipissing is Ontario's third-largest lake lying wholly inside the province — a shallow, warm, walleye-factory inland sea between North Bay and Sturgeon Falls, its name meaning big water in Ojibwe. The famous fishing grounds are all here: Frank's Bay and Campbell's Bay on the wilder south shore, the West Arm channels, Callander Bay, and the ice-hut villages that cover the lake every winter. Public land rings the water — the Lake Nipissing Area general use lands, island nature reserves like West Sandy Island and the Manitou Islands a few kilometres offshore, South Bay park on the French River outlet, and Restoule Provincial Park 20 km south on its namesake lake — while the crown-land south shore hides boat-in campsites. This page rounds up the region's public land, fishing spots, campgrounds and road trips.
