Crown Land around Quetico
Quetico is the Canadian half of the world's most famous canoe wilderness — a 4,760-square-kilometre maze of pine-rimmed lakes and pictograph cliffs along the Minnesota border, twinned with the Boundary Waters on the American side. The base town is Atikokan, the self-declared Canoeing Capital of Canada, sitting on Highway 11 about 40 km from the park's Dawson Trail entrance at French Lake, and the country around town is nearly all crown land: general use areas like Steep Rock, Finlayson and Marmion wrap the big walleye water of Marmion Lake and the Atikokan River, and the White Otter enhanced management area to the north holds the log-built White Otter Castle. This page rounds up the region's public land, fishing spots, campgrounds and road trips.
