Crown Land around Mount Carleton
Mount Carleton Provincial Park covers about 173 km² of the New Brunswick highlands, and its namesake peak is the highest point in the Maritimes. This page is centred on Nictau Lake, under 1 km away, where the park's Armstrong Brook Campground (2 km) and the Headwaters Campsite (5 km) are the only campgrounds on our map for about 60 km. The country around the park is a block of protected natural areas: McCarty Brook (19 km), Nepisiguit (11,895 ha, 22 km), Portage Lakes and Northwest Upsalquitch River (both about 22 km). Candidate conserved areas along Little Tobique River, Lawson Brook, Four Mile Brook and Silver Brook are 8 to 13 km out. Little Nictau Lake is 2 km away, and our map shows 100 lakes and brooks within 25 km, most of them headwaters of the Tobique and Nepisiguit. This page rounds up the region's public land, fishing spots, campgrounds and road trips.
