Winter fishing on Whiteshell River
Whiteshell River is in the Southern Division of Manitoba's angling regulations. Walleye and sauger are open May 9, 2026 to April 4, 2027, and most other species all year. The 2026 Anglers' Guide lists rules of its own for this water, shown below.
- Trout limit is 0 and closed to all fishing from November 1 to and including April 15.
- Shelters off by March 31, 2027, except March 14 on the Red River and March 15 in Area B (southwestern Manitoba), or sooner if a Conservation Officer orders it. In a provincial park, shelters must also meet Manitoba Parks' size, location and use standards, and may not be slept in.
- Live bait fish are not allowed on stocked trout waters. From April 1, 2027, live bait fish and leeches will be banned everywhere in Manitoba.
- You may fish with two lines through the ice (one in open water), with no more than two hooks or lures per line, and you must stay within 50 m of your lines.
- Barbless hooks are required on every line in Manitoba, ice fishing included.
Nearest climate station reporting snow: Pinawa (29 km away), 1 cm on the ground on November 1.
